NEW ORLEANS – WDSU-TV announced that anchor/reporter Adrianna Hopkins will be the newest member of the station’s news team, co-anchoring WDSU 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. newscasts with Scott Walker.
For the last decade, Adrianna has covered multiple stories in the national spotlight, including the Trayvon Martin case, Florida’s debate over same-sex marriage, the Miami Heat’s championship season and the subsequent departure of the team’s star player, LeBron James. She has also covered major weather events, including Hurricane Isaac and the 2009 Kentucky ice storm that left hundreds of thousands without power for almost 10 days. Her reporting has earned her two Emmy Awards along with a number of awards from the Associated Press and the Society of Professional Journalists. In her free time, she mentors students with an interest in journalism.
“Adrianna’s background is ideal for New Orleans,” WDSU News Director Jonathan Shelley said. “She’s skilled and experienced at bringing home the big story, and as everyone knows, we have plenty of those here in NOLA. We’re excited to have her join our team.”
A native of Leawood, KS (near Kansas City), Adrianna comes to New Orleans after spending the past three years at WSVN-TV in Miami. She studied broadcasting at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Communications. Adrianna earned her first newsroom job as a production assistant at WRAL-TV in Raleigh, NC, then worked as a reporter at WGXA-TV in Macon, GA, and as an anchor and reporter at WHAS-TV in Louisville, KY.
“I've traveled the U.S. and lived in the East, West and South, but I'm drawn to New Orleans because of the people and the culture,” Adrianna said. “I can't wait to make the Crescent City my home and explore its rich history.”
Adrianna’s first day on-air will be in late January. With Adrianna’s arrival, the anchor line-up for WDSU weekday afternoon and evening news will be as follows:
