At an evening reception in Baton Rouge in November 2018, the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI) held its annual Free Enterprise Awards. The Jefferson Chamber was among the nine companies and individuals honored, receiving the Economic Development Partner of the Year Award.
LABI is dedicated to fostering economic growth through free enterprise, and The Free Enterprise Awards honor LABI members who contribute to this goal by committing themselves to community growth and sustainability. The Economic Development Partner of the Year recognizes an economic development or business organization that has exemplified exceptional leadership.
“To receive an award like this just reassures us that we are making a difference in the community,” said Emily Anderson, Communications Director for the Jefferson Chamber. “We’re continuing to improve the business culture and making Jefferson Parish a place people want to live, work and raise their families.”
In addition to its traditional responsibilities, the Jefferson Chamber engages regularly in advocacy efforts and economic development –– activities that are key to LABI’s mission.
“Todd Murphy and his team at the Jefferson Chamber have been one of our strongest local partners for two decades,” said LABI’s President Stephen Waguespack. “Over the past year, the Jefferson Chamber partnered with LABI to fight for critical issues not only in Jefferson Parish, but across the state –– fighting together for common sense reforms that would reduce car insurance rates, promote innovative companies and call for comprehensive reform in a constitutional convention.”
Jefferson Chamber President Todd Murphy said that with the chamber’s advocacy for companies like Uber and Lyft and its involvement in the Ready Louisiana Coalition, 2018 has been a monumental year. “We are honored to be recognized by our state chamber and partner for the work we have been involved in throughout the year,” he said.
