In the Chamber’s 21-year history, 2018 has undoubtedly been the year where we reached immeasurable heights. In just 12 months, we have been recognized for our achievements by our local government with numerous proclamations: the U.S. Chamber designating us as Five Star Accredited; Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) presenting us with an Award of Excellence for our Health and Wellness Campaign, LiveWell Jefferson; ACCE for asking our team to present LiveWell Jefferson at the recent international conference; and LABI for selecting the Jefferson Chamber as the Economic Development Partner of the Year.
The crown jewel achievement of the year is the designation by the U.S. Chamber of Five Star Accreditation. Only 116 chambers in the United States have such a designation, and we are now one of five in Louisiana. It was an exhausting nine-month process to submit for the prestigious honor, but one that we thought our members deserved.
Our mission is that of improving the business climate and the quality of life in our parish and region, and we do so with a three-pronged approach. We leverage the strength and resources of our Chamber, our PAC, and our non-profit Foundation. Three organizations all with ONE mission.
We value collaboration with other organizations. As such, we host quarterly association round-tables with the six other business, networking and economic development organizations in our parish. We also host a similar discussion with the nine other chambers in our region and the regional economic development organization. The sessions are held out of our office and foster trust and communication on issues that impact us all. We also work closely with our regional economic development organization, GNO, Inc. and the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI). We are proud of the work we do in concert with organizations and through coalitions working for a better Louisiana.
As President and Chairman of the Jefferson Chamber, we could not be prouder of the work of the Chamber’s small staff and our dedicated volunteers. It is exciting that our volunteers participate on eight different committees and volunteer time to our PAC and Foundation for the betterment of our organization. From educational seminars and networking events and advocacy trips, we have hosted over 80 events in the past year. The success of our Five-Star Chamber is directly attributable to the talents, expertise and commitment on the part of the leadership of the Chamber — both members of our staff and our valued investors.
