$850M Waggaman Ammonia Plant 75% Complete

WAGGAMAN, LA (AP) — Construction of an ammonia plant in Waggaman is now 75 percent complete.

         The Advocate’s Ted Griggs reports the $850 million plant is on track to begin operating sometime between July and September of 2016.

         The plant will use natural gas to make ammonia-based fertilizer.

         Australian explosives and chemical maker Incitec Pivot Ltd. released the update Monday as part of its mid-year financial results. Incitec is the parent company of Dyno Nobel, an industrial explosives and blasting company that will own the plant.

         According to Incitec, $550 million had been spent on the plant as of March 31.
