COVINGTON, LA — The 7th annual Kickin’ Parkinson’s fundraiser takes place Thursday, September 22, 2016, at the Stone Creek Club and Spa in Covington, the day before scientists and leaders from The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) gather for a roundtable discussion at Oxlot 9 in the Southern Hotel in Covington.
The Kickin’ Party will feature live music from The Molly Ringwalds, an open bar and food by local restaurants, a silent auction and many special guests, including Debi Brooks, Co-Founder and Executive Vice Chairman of MJFF.
On Friday, September 23, from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., the public is invited to attend a Parkinson’s Research Roundtable at Oxlot 9 in the Southern Hotel, 428 E Boston St., in Covington. Led by MJFF’s Brooks, this in-depth discussion will cover the latest information on medical breakthroughs and other topics that’s important to patients and families of those suffering from Parkinson’s disease. Other participants include Terina Martinez, PhD, Senior Associate Director of Research Programs; Patricia Radford, Senior Associate Director of Development; and Liz Diemer, Senior Associate Director of Team Fox. There will also be a Q&A session for the audience to submit questions to our expert panel.
“We could not be prouder of our local efforts that have raised over $840,000 to find a cure for Parkinson’s disease,” said Quentin Dastugue, co-founder of Kickin’ Parkinson’s who has been living with Parkinson’s since 2009. “Important advancements are being made that are already changing the lives of so many who have Parkinson’s disease. That’s why your participation in this year’s fundraiser and roundtable discussion are so important. The roundtable discussion allows us an intimate meeting with members of the Foundation staff and the broader Parkinson’s community.”
Through Team Fox, the Foundation’s grassroots community fundraising program, Kickin’ Parkinson’s, is part of a global network of more than 2,000 annual members, each hosting unique community fundraisers and campaigns to support MJFF. In 2015, Kickin’ Parkinson’s raised more than $300,000 bringing their historic fundraising total to well over $840,000, 100 percent of which has gone directly to MJFF’s high-impact programs to speed a cure for Parkinson’s disease. Kickin’ Parkinson’s also earned recognition as one of Team Fox’s top 3 fundraising events in both 2014 and 2015.
Kickin’ Parkinson’s is committed to raising awareness and finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease. Over 50,000 people in the U.S. alone are diagnosed with Parkinson’s annually, organizers said.
