NEW ORLEANS – People from all over New Orleans will participate in the 6th Annual NOLA Bike to Work Day, presented by Entergy, by biking to work on April 12.
Bike Trains will depart from multiple locations around the city and convene at Lafayette Square. Participants will also enjoy complimentary refreshments, giveaways and bike repairs.
This year’s NOLA Bike to Work Day will also kick off the new Bike Easy Challenge, a free, month-long community-wide challenge for individuals and colleagues to experience the joys and benefits of biking featuring prizes generously donated by supporters and bike friendly businesses across the Greater New Orleans region, from April 12 – May 12.
NOLA Bike to Work Day helps introduce more people to biking, shows a collective strength in numbers, and demonstrates why New Orleans is in the top 10 American cities for bike commuting, organization reps said. Prior to Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans had approximately 11 miles of bicycle paths. Thanks to a grant from Entergy Corporation and a partnership between the City of New Orleans and the Louisiana Public Health Institute, the city now boasts more than 100 miles of installed bikeways and is equipped to drastically increase ridership over the next three years, they said.
