6 Seek SUNO Chancellor Post

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Southern University at New Orleans has released the names of six applicants seeking to replace Victor Ukpolo, who stepped down as chancellor in June.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune’s Danielle Dreilinger reports that the list includes James Ammons, a professor at Florida A&M University: Lorenzo Esters, a vice president at USA Funds; Ray McDonald, the dean of business and social sciences at Texas College; Lisa Mims-Devezin, who is now the interim chancellor at SUNO; John Penny, the chair of criminal justice at SUNO; and Boyce Courtney Williams, president and CEO at the National Alliance of Learning.

Ukpolo is credited with helping SUNO recover from Hurricane Katrina. But low graduation rates and charges of mismanagement have plagued the campus. Administrators recently had to submit a financial corrective action plan to the Board of Regents.
