NEW ORLEANS – RootsCamp LA, will take place this weekend, Saturday, March 7, through Sunday, March 8, 2015, and the American Association of University Women Louisiana will be conducting one of the seed sessions on Saturday morning.
This “Women’s Caucus” will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Ashe Cultural Arts Center, 1712 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd., New Orleans.
Caucus discussions will center on women’s issues in the upcoming legislative session including ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment and passage of the deadline removal resolutions in Congress, pay equity, increasing the minimum wage, reproductive rights, Medicaid expansion, domestic violence and Louisiana Courts Matter.
AAUW members and coalition partners will give brief overviews of these critical issues and upcoming legislative initiatives being introduced regarding these issues during the 2015 state legislative session, set to commence on Monday, April 13, 2015.
Following the presentations, an interactive brainstorming discussion among attendees will be held to strategize about upcoming advocacy efforts during the legislative session and beyond.
There will be a lunch break and participant-driven panel discussion sessions held that afternoon focusing on everything from Common Core to Advocacy 101.
There will also be a Socializing for Solidarity mixer on Saturday evening.
