50 Chevron Future Leaders Program NORDC Teens Travel To North Carolina For 3rd Annual College Tour

NEW ORLEANS – Today, Monday, July 24, 50 teens from the Chevron Future Leaders Program and the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) Teen Council, aged 12-17, will leave the Milne Rec Center, 5420 Franklin Ave., to embark on a six-day road trip to four different colleges in the Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte, North Carolina areas. The teens will have the unique opportunity to tour the campuses, speak with counselors, professors, and explore career path options at each college. The teens will also visit many of the rich historical sites in the capital city.

The Chevron Future Leaders program offers an array of monthly learning activities and events for select Teen Council members. The program is designed to support skills development and enable early career exploration. To participate in the Chevron Future Leaders program and receive rewards, students must continue to meet GPA, school attendance and leadership behavior requirements throughout the school year.

The NORD Teen Council was designed to empower young people by developing a social growth environment through structured NORD teen programs. These emerging leaders actively participate in civic and community engagement by designing and implementing city-wide teen programming including recreational events, social action projects and community service in addition to the annual college tour.
