NEW ORLEANS – Uptown sports bar 45 Tchoup, 4529 Tchoupitoulas St., will host a viewing party for the Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon during the Boston Red Sox vs. Tampa Bay Rays game on Monday, August 29, 2016, at 6:00 p.m.
The event will feature ballpark fare, raffles, drink specials and games.
Proceeds will benefit the Jimmy Fund, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, which is dedicated to supporting pediatric and adult cancer care and research.
The only location in Louisiana to host a satellite Jimmy Fund event, 45 Tchoup has raised more than $60,000 since 2008 to benefit the Jimmy Fund.
While the 45 Tchoup viewing party has been an Uptown tradition for more than eight years, the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon is currently celebrating its 15th year. Over the span of 36 hours and two Boston Red Sox games, the annual broadcast from Fenway Park features compelling stories from Dana-Farber patients, doctors, researchers and nurses, celebrity guests and athletes, inspiring people all over the world to contribute to Dana-Farber's lifesaving mission.
Debbie Shatz, a Red Sox fan, and Frankie Mazzanti, a Razorbacks fan, worked together at Parasol’s Bar in 1998, and with seed money from a winning Superfecta Kentucky Derby ticket, they opened 45 Tchoup on January 22, 2007. The bar and tables are built of wood reclaimed from Hurricane Katrina, and they were hand-crafted by Shatz's husband, Jeremy.
