COVINGTON, LA (AP) — Four governmental bodies in St. Tammany Parish have accepted money from BP as part of a group settlement of local government claims for economic losses caused by the 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Advocate’s Sara Pagones reports three more will take up the matter next week.
The St. Tammany Parish Council accepted a $16.8 million settlement last week.
The Slidell City Council approved a $3 million settlement.
The Mandeville City Council accepted $2 million while the St. Tammany Parish School Board approved $15.4 million.
None of them discussed their plans for spending the money.
The Northshore Harbor Center's board and the St. Tammany Parish Tourist Commission will meet today to deal with their settlement offers. The Covington City Council will do so Tuesday.
