36th Annual USA Volleyball Junior National Championships In Town

NEW ORLEANS – The USA Volleyball Junior National Championships competition is taking place at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center and will conclude on Wednesday, July 2, 2015, when they crown 30 champions in age divisions ranging from 11 to 18-years-old.

By tournament's end, organizers estimate the event will have attracted more than 13,000 athletes and 25,000 spectators and is expected to create a $23 million dollar economic impact for New Orleans.

"The City of New Orleans has long been known for its success in hosting major sporting events and we feel that the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships fits on this list very well," USA Volleyball Senior Director Tom Pingel said. "The return to New Orleans for the Girls' Championships has been long overdue and are already having a great start to our 2015 event."

The 2015 GJNC is the first USA Volleyball event in New Orleans since the 2005 USA Volleyball Open National Championships, which was one of the first major sporting events held in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. In 1999, New Orleans hosted by the USA Volleyball Girls' and Boys' Junior National Championships.

Jay Cicero, president and CEO of the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation applauded USA Volleyball and the many entities in New Orleans who worked to bring the event back to the Crescent City. "New Orleans remains North America's favorite destination for championship sporting events,” Cicero said. “Hosting an event of this magnitude takes a phenomenal amount of coordination between the New Orleans Metropolitan CVB, Morial Convention Center and the many participating hotels that recognize the value of hosting this premier amateur event. We thank Tom Pingel and USA Volleyball for their eagerness to continue the great relationship with the City of New Orleans. As you will undoubtedly pass thousands of young athletes in the downtown area this week, please extend them the warm New Orleans welcome that we have become known for."

Spectator tickets are available for $14 per day or $40 for a tournament pass. Discounts are available for seniors, military, and students for $9 per day and $35 for a tournament pass.
