START Corporation

START Corporation works to create a seamless system of care for people that builds healthier communities.

Every person deserves the opportunity to live and function independently. That is the philosophy behind START Corporation, a Houma-founded nonprofit delivering integrated community care since 1984. Operating in seven communities across Louisiana, START CORP works to create a seamless system of care that promotes self-sufficiency by connecting people to housing, healthcare, and support services that strengthen lives and communities.

Through its community health center in Central City, residents can access a vast range of services, including primary care, behavioral health, HIV treatment and prevention resources, substance use treatment, and Medicaid enrollment assistance. Open to patients of all backgrounds, the clinic provides a comprehensive approach under one roof, regardless of insurance, income, or ability to pay. START also helps individuals and families facing some of the city’s toughest barriers to stability, including a youth drop-in center, veteran services, case management, permanent supportive housing, and rapid rehousing.

Through its Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team, START serves individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness through multidisciplinary, wrap-around treatment in the community and at home. These programs help move adults and children from crisis to long-term stability. Through consistent, person-centered care, START helps improve quality of life and empower people to live more independently. When people are healthier and more stable, New Orleans is stronger and better equipped to thrive.
