“Our partnership with the Chamber enhances our ability to connect with and provide resources to local business owners.”

With roots tracing back to 1994, Women’s Business Enterprise Council (WBEC) South has been the leading organization representing women-owned business enterprises (WBE’s) in Louisiana and across the south for 28 years. Committed to its core values of providing certification, opportunities, resources and engagement, WBEC South has certified 1,000 WBE’s with an economic impact reaching $17 billion.

WBEC South President and CEO Phala Kimbrough Mire spearheads business growth and certification programs for WBE’s across Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and the Florida Panhandle. With over 20 years of experience as a non-profit executive, Mire is a highly distinguished leader in entrepreneurship, diversity and inclusion and women’s business issues.

“Our mission is to connect WBEs with corporate buyers, influencers and decision makers, and ultimately achieve barrier free access to supply chain opportunities for women-owned firms,” says Mire. Serving on the Board of Directors for the New Orleans Chamber, Mire utilizes the chamber as a crucial tool in expanding WBEC South’s reach.

“Our Chamber membership is invaluable. The networking opportunities within our local business community are amazing and the Chamber’s Women’s Business Alliance aligns perfectly with our mission,” says Mire. “Our partnership with the Chamber enhances our ability to connect with and provide resources to local business owners.”

WBEC South’s Women-centered programs include WB Collective – a coworking, private office and event space where women can build businesses and connect – in addition to the WB Marketplace, Women’s Business Center South and the Enterprising Women of Color program. This December, WBEC South will host its annual WE Awards & Scholarship Gala celebrating the accomplishments and support for regional WBEs.
