The Greater New Orleans Foundation

Philanthropy & Civic Leadership

With roots extending nearly 100 years, the Greater New Orleans Foundation (Foundation) serves as the community foundation for the 13-parish region of Southeast Louisiana, connecting generous people to the causes about which they are passionate. A trusted philanthropic leader, the Foundation hosts over 1,100 funds and holds over $500 million in assets. In addition to helping philanthropists with donor-advised funds, bequests and endowments, the Foundation operates its own grantmaking programs and provides best-in-class training to nonprofit boards and staff.

The Foundation also tackles the region’s greatest problems head-on by bringing together people, resources and ideas to create intelligent, innovative civic leadership projects. The New Orleans Works initiative has placed over 500 disconnected workers into jobs with hospitals and clinics. The Foundation’s environmental program supports nonprofits working to build the movement to live better with water by promoting green infrastructure to better manage stormwater. The Foundation is also leading the effort to create a robust and equitable BioDistrict to grow jobs and diversify the regional economy.

But the work does not stop there. The Foundation raises millions for nonprofits every year on GiveNOLA Day. The Foundation has also responded to every disaster since Hurricane Katrina when it led the Unified Community Planning effort at a $23 million affordable housing fund. Most recently, the Foundation raised over $8 million in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In response to Hurricane Ida, the Foundation has granted over $5 million to nonprofits working on the front lines.
