NEW ORLEANS — Finalists for the 4th annual Millennial Awards, themed "Voices of a Generation," have been announced.
The Millennials is a one-of-a-kind awards program that honors New Orleans' millennials who are making a difference in the community and excelling in their respective industry. The ceremony will commence at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at the Peoples Health Jazz Market, located at 1436 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. The Millennial Awards restaurant competition will return for the third year in a row.
The awards ceremony will honor millennials in 18 diverse categories, such as healthcare, education, journalism, film, innovation, and music. More than 200 nominations were submitted by the public and were judged by a panel of local millennials.
State Rep. Walter "Walt" J. Leger, III and WWL-TV reporter Tamica Lee will serve as this year's hosts. Entertainment for the evening includes performances by DJ RQ Away, Mia Borders and T-Ray the Violinist.
The audience will vote on their favorite dish to crown 2016's Millennial Restaurant of the Year. The restaurant competition will begin at 7:00 p.m., and the awards ceremony will begin at 9:00 p.m.
An after party will follow the ceremony.
Tickets are available for $20 and can be purchased online.
Past notable winners include musician Trombone Shorty, U.S. Attorney Kenneth Polite, filmmaker John Richie, Son of a Saint founder Bivian "Sonny" Lee, Dear World founder Robert X. Fogarty, Tulane Health System Chief Operating Officer Jyric Sims and others.
A portion of proceeds from this year's event will benefit several local non-profit organizations.
The Millennial Awards is presented by First NBC Bank and Tulane Health System. Additional sponsors of the event include Yelp, Harrah's New Orleans, State Farm, iHeart Media, and WWL-TV.
