13K Expected To Attend American Society Of Cataract And Refractive Surgery Convention May 6-10

NEW ORLEANS – The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators (ASOA) will welcome an anticipated 13,000 attendees to the joint Symposium & Congress at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, Halls B-D, Friday, May 6, through Tuesday May 10, 2016.

         The largest meeting of its kind in the U.S., the ASCRS•ASOA Symposium & Congress will feature 1,300 presentations, more than 300 ophthalmology industry exhibitors and specialized pre-meeting programming including Glaucoma Day, Cornea Day and a Technicians & Nurses Program.

         During the meeting, the ASCRS Foundation will host its fourth annual ASCRS Run for Sight, Sunday, May 8, at 6:30 a.m. The 2016 ASCRS Run for Sight will begin and end at the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas and feature a 5K run and 1-mile walk. Registration is open to the public and all proceeds will benefit the ASCRS Foundation’s ongoing humanitarian eye care programs in the U.S. and abroad. Over the past three years, Run for Sight has raised nearly $70,000 for ASCRS Foundation initiatives, including Operation Sight, a U.S.-based charitable cataract surgery program aimed at eliminating treatable cataract blindness in the United States.

         The ASCRS is an international, educational society with more than 9,000 members. Its mission is to advance the art and science of ophthalmic surgery and the knowledge and skills of ophthalmic surgeons by providing clinical and practice management education and by working with patients, government and the medical community to promote the delivery and advancement of high-quality eye care. The mission of ASOA is to advance the skills and professionalism of ophthalmic practice management. Founded in 1986 by administrators for administrators, ASOA is the premier organization for the business side of the ophthalmic practice.

         This is the first ASCRS•ASOA Symposium & Congress to be held in New Orleans. The group is projected to have an economic impact of more than $15 million.
